A Model for Learning
This document considers the process of communication, from the earliest experiences of interaction within Level 1 of the National Curriculum. The first five stages correspond to levels identified by various researchers in this field of learning, the initial three stages being at an early, preintentional level. These levels have been summarised by Coupe and Joliffe (1988) and are in the process of being validated for assessment purposes. The sixth stage, which includes the above example, is on going throughout the levels identified in the National Curriculum and indeed throughout adult life as people continue to develop skills in aspects of communication.
