Information Technology Tina D etheridge
Tina Detheridge This chapter begins by setting the context for the educational uses of information technology (IT) for pupils with special educational needs (SEN). It will discuss the requirements and recommendations of developing IT capability in the National Curriculum as far as it affects pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities. It will look particularly at the role of IT in providing access to learning. This will be illustrated by a number of examples where IT has made a significant contribution to a pupil’s achievements. It will finally discuss some of the issues facing schools on identifying solutions and effective implementation.. Readers who are interested in the historical development of IT and SEN will gain useful information from Hawkridge and Vincent (1992), HMI (1990), Hope (1987), and Roberts (1991).
