Preparing for Self-advocacy
This chapter aims to stimulate discussion on ways in which the foundations for selfadvocacy can be laid by schools. How can schools prepare young people for adult life by helping them to develop the skills and confidence to speak for themselves, to be selfassertive, even militant when this is necessary? How can this be incorporated into the activities of the school and into the day-to-day interactions which take place in the classroom and the playground? How early should this process begin?
