Introduction Learning,evenlearningwhichappearstobeprimarilyinternal,happensinacontextand veryfewofusareluckyenoughtobeabletodoourlearningunderconditionswhich couldbesaidtobeideal.Thismaybeespeciallytrueforpeoplewithprofoundand multiplelearningdifficulties.Theselearnersmayneedtofind,orbesupportedin finding,waysaroundvariousobstacles,suchassensory,perceptualormotor impairments,beforelearningcanbegintotakeplace.Thischapterisaimedatreaders whoareontheteachingsideoftheteacher-learnerrelationship,whetheryouarea qualifiedpractitionerworkinginaspecificallyeducationalinstitutionoracommitted memberofthemulti-disciplinaryteamsupportingclientswithprofoundandmultiple learningdifficultiesincontinuingtolearninthecommunity.Thepurposeofthischapter istosupportyouinyourtaskofcreatingandmaintainingconditionsunderwhich effectivelearningislikelytotakeplace.Partofthisdiscussionwillconcernwaysin whichthoseconditionscanbemodifiedinordertosupportandfacilitatelearningfor peoplewhomaybeexperiencingparticulardifficultiesinthisareaoftheirlives.
