ABSTRACT

This chapter describes an ongoing study of early intervention services for children with special needs in the former county of South Glamorgan (approximately the area covered since 1996 by the two unitary authorities of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and Barry). The study aims to discover the range of provision available to different children and their families, and the factors which influence the services they receive. In particular it focuses on the organisation of services and the way in which families experience the provision of services from birth to age six. We are particularly interested in how the actual experiences of families fit with theoretical perspectives on 'good provision'.
