ABSTRACT

Producing a written whole-school behaviour policy is an important part of a school’s effort to promote good behaviour. A school is required by the 1986 Education Act to have a written Behaviour and Discipline Policy and OFSTED will request this document prior to carrying out an inspection. However, the success of the policy will be judged during an inspection and by members of the school community not by its written form but rather by how effective it is in informing the day to day practices of the school. Those judging the impact of the policy will look for evidence of its impact in and around the school.
