Collage involves gluing layers of material and/or paper onto a backing to make a pattern or image. It has been used by artists in many cultures, notably in Europe. In school, collage links work in 2D and 3D, in using fabrics and papers, in sculpture and, occasionally, moulding. It offers potential for the teacher and children to focus on particular skills, such as gluing and cutting, and on particular elements of art such as texture and composition. A collaged surface can be either the first stage or the finishing process for paintings, drawings, and box modelling.
