Navigating published research on SEN and inclusion
At the end of Chapter 2 we discussed how to move towards ‘researchable questions’ about SEN. This is usually the beginning of a long journey. Any investigation will be subject to a good deal of selection, refining and reinterpretation along the way, sometimes to the extent of ending up with quite a different question from the one
identified at the start. The aim of this chapter is to give an impression of the wide range of research in this area by offering a selection of studies which represent a variety of routes taken by researchers who have published their findings. Some were written by academic researchers based in universities or research organisations, and some by teachers combining research and teaching in their own schools (although it is still relatively hard to find published accounts written by practising teachers).
