Ideas into action: the research process

The cornerstone of this chapter is Table 4.1 which provides the reader with an overview of alternative ways one might approach research into key issues relating to SEN at three different levels: structural; adult and pupil in context. To annotate the table we will offer examples of the types of questions you might ask at each of these different levels and how you might engage with the same question using three different research approaches. We do not wish to suggest that what we offer is a comprehensive treatment of all possible approaches, but we aim to give the reader some insight into contrasting and complementary ways of engaging with a research question.
