ABSTRACT

One of the most challenging aspects of working with pupils who experience PMLD is to find a means of facilitating progress along often highly individual pathways to learning that not only are age appropriate but also convey specific learning objectives. We have offered activities which fall within this brief. As we have approached each Key Stage we have endeavoured to present a format that allows learners to become enabled as far as possible towards greater autonomy, to address the barriers to their learning and move away from a culture of dependence on adult support. We have also suggested ways in which class based activities could move more towards those which support planned independence and interdependence oriented towards greater participation in the community.
