ABSTRACT
The first breakthrough came through Jim the caretaker, also from Glasgow, also with a family from Ireland, non-judgemental, kind and cjuiet. Billy became his shadow and so the silent tours to other classrooms began and his confidence and trust grew. He began talking to us. Each teacher would smile and say ‘hello’, expecting to be ignored but Billy began smiling at us and looking round our classrooms.
