ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Internet, and gives some suggestions for sites worth investigation of computer based therapies. Sites for advice, support, keeping abreast of the latest research in autism and information and communication technology (ICT), and not least for interaction, multiply in number and type each month, giving the opportunity to share experiences with others. The web, for both teachers and students, can be an exciting and useful tool or can be a very frustrating and angry experience. Easy guides on how to use the Internet are available from, for example one of BECTa's information sheets. Like many sites National Autistic Society's (NAS's) site has a good explanation of what autism and Asperger's syndrome are. This is a particularly good site for support for parents, carers and children, which is not surprising as this was the main purpose for the formation of the association back in 1962.
