ABSTRACT
Writing, in the twenty-first century, continues to play a vital role in both our public and private lives. Skilful writers are empowered members of society and have the ability to influence the world around them. Therefore, the effective teaching of writing is fundamental to creating successful and confident individuals who are equipped to meet the demands of the world in which they live. Assessment must be at the heart of this and central to the process of teaching and learning. We need to identify where children are in their understanding and enable them to move forward in their development.
