ABSTRACT
Probably one of the areas of most significant growth in symbol use in the past few years has been for young people and adults with learning disabilities in preparing for and living in the adult world. A few years ago, many adults with a learning disability were not encouraged to make choices and develop their own opinions. Since then we have seen an amazing increase in opportunity brought about by improvements in post-16 education and in the number of local schemes for adults.
