ABSTRACT

The hearing mechanism (see Figure 3.1) can be divided into two main parts: the conductive system comprising the outer and middle ear, and the sensory system of the inner ear.

The conductive part includes the external ear, the ear canal, ear drum and a chain of tiny bones in the middle ear. Its function is to convey sound energy from the environment to the sensory organ of hearing. It does this by converting sound energy into vibration, which travels along a conductive chain.
