Links Between Emotional/Behavioural Problems and Communication Difficulties
As children learn about the world and the people around them they must explore, experiment and test limits, which can be a trying time for even the most patient adult. This chapter looks beyond these expected behaviours, at children who are unusually difficult to manage and whose social and emotional development is giving cause for concern. It particularly considers:
• what is meant by the term 'emotional and behavioural problems'; • what sort of problems are likely; • how common these are; • why children with communication difficulties are especially prone; • when and why some children have these problems; • what can be done to help.
