ABSTRACT

As has been shown in Chapter 1, the process of communicating starts from birth, and the development of communication into language and speech begins as the new-born baby draws its first breath.

Communication is an interactive process; that means more than one person is involved. Even from birth it is something that does not occur alone, it is dependent on other factors, such as people and events. This can be illustrated by thinking about any conversation. What one person says is dependent on what the other person says; on their reactions to the first person's communication.
