ABSTRACT

The Netherlands is a small country with a high population density. A relatively large part of it is urban and industrialized, with a great deal of infrastructure. Nevertheless, almost two-thirds of the country’s available surface area is used for agricultural purposes, and agriculture is of major importance for the Dutch economy. Dairy products such as cheese are exported throughout the world. Dutch agriculture (both arable and livestock-rearing) is very modern and is characterized by production techniques that generally make intensive use of capital, energy and raw materials.
