ABSTRACT

The terminology ‘education for sustainability’ (EFS) may be new to many of those working with young people in non-formal settings; however, the concept itself is certainly not. The idea that young people should meet their current needs without compromising their ability to meet future needs is a foundation stone of the majority of youth work. Initiatives tackling crime, employment, homelessness, debt and health that exist within the youth work sector encourage young adults away from behaviour that only provides instant rewards in favour of action that may sustain their pleasures.
