ABSTRACT

Empowering women and enabling them to succeed in their daily struggle for survival is a mammoth task way beyond the scope of individuals or organisations, even very large ones. Only through the concerted efforts of mass-based women’s movements can the discrimination which women suffer, in spite of their hard work and invaluable contributions to national economies the world over, be challenged. Today, it is imperative that governmental efforts to promote the well-being of women and uplift their status are supplemented by NGOs. One such movement which has grown into one of the largest NGOs in the developing world is the Working Women’s Forum of India (WWF). This chapter explores the monitoring and evaluation strategies adopted by the Forum to measure its performance and ensure its accountability to its members, donors, the government and to society as a whole.
