The close of the World Conservation Congress is also a convenient point at which to close the narrative record of 50 years of history. Fifty years from the first excursion in the Swiss Engadine to that immense gathering in Montreal. What has it really meant? What have been the strengths and weaknesses, successes and failures of global action for conservation? How successful has IUCN been?
