ABSTRACT

Chapters 2 and 3 demonstrated how MRP is based on material needs, and how the automated parts of the calculation assume that production capacity is always available when required. It was also shown that plans must be realistic with respect to capacity if order due-dates are to be met reliably. This chapter will look at techniques available for planning capacity and show how they relate to production planning and scheduling. Finally, the relevance of lead times to capacity planning will be discussed.
