ABSTRACT
The religious scene of Japan is full of surprises. Recently on a visit I had the opportunity to stay for a few days with the members of a new Shinto sect that questions the legitimacy of the imperial family, demands female domination, identifies Susa-no-o with Jehovah, and venerates a statue of Jesus Christ in one of the sacred shrines of Shinto.
