ABSTRACT

The Scope of this Book This European Reference Book on Daylighting

is the first concrete achievement of the Commission of the European Communities R & D programme on daylighting. It attempts to bring together, on a European-wide basis, existing knowledge on systematic daylighting design. It includes discussion on the interrelationships between daylight design and artificial lighting design, and the significance of their controlled interactions for the saving of energy. Few works can claim to be comprehensive and at the same time balanced. This reference book is the result of contributions from researchers across Europe and inevitably represents the particular interests and viewpoints of individual research groups. Thus it does not set out to be a comprehensive design handbook, rather a review of current European research, which has an overall aim of serving the design community.
