ABSTRACT

Ecological building concepts have been gaining momentum in Germany in recent years, resulting in the emergence of a niche market in ecological building materials. However, realizations undertaken to date have been mostly limited to detached houses. In medium to large-scale commercial housing projects ecological considerations are still dominated by economic concerns. In this context, low-cost social housing incorporating ecological considerations seems to be a contradiction in itself.
