ABSTRACT
Location: Erzurum is the largest city in northeastern Anatolia (Asiatic Turkey) and capital of the province of the same name. The city, 6,400 feet above sea level, is situated at the southeastern edge of a fertile plateau near the source of the Kara Su River. It is surrounded by mountains, which rise in the north to an altitude of about 10,000 feet. Erzurum is 450 miles east of Ankara and 110 miles southeast of Trabzon.
