ABSTRACT
Location: In eastern Turkey, near the Turkish border with both Armenia and Georgia, 178 kilometers northeast of Erzurum, Turkey, on a high, exposed plateau surrounded by mountain ranges. The city is located on the River Kars, a tributary of the Aras, along a section where the river narrows in a deep gorge.
