G Genetics of Other Mammals

Four main routes to transgenesis in mammals have been described:

1 . integration of (retro)viral vectors into an early embryo; 2. microinjection of DNA into the pronucleus of a fertilized

oocyte; 3. incorporation of genetically manipulated embryonic stem

(ES) cells into an early embryo; and 4. transfer of genetically altered nuclei into enucleated

oocytes.
