ABSTRACT
The need for heating in an outdoor pool is determined by the desired water temperature. The heat needed is the difference between the heat input from solar radiation on the water surface and the heat losses (evaporation and convection). At Swedish latitudes without energy-saving measures the heat losses can reach 1200 kWh per m2 of pool area during the operating season. Therefore temperature control and the pool covering are important to reduce the need for extra heat.
