ABSTRACT

Each of these successions begins at the base, i.e. in the feet and progresses through the whole body, involving each part as it comes to it, and finally expends itself through the raised arms and hands. In XI A and B the succession is followed by a relaxation which starts with the fingertips and involves each part of the body bit by bit until the performer is once again in the original starting position. It is important to achieve a complete succession through the whole body which, for these forward successions, starts from an extreme downward and backward position and progresses forward and upward from a push from the feet, on through the knees, pelvis and chest, and results in a taut arc. The base of the spine makes a sagittal circular path.
