ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a descriptive, documented account of a beginning Foreign Language course using the Acquisition through Creative Teaching Approach within a more controlled experimental environment than was the setting at the University of Massachusetts. The intent is to describe the actual program and its results with an immediacy that enables the reader to better sense what it can be like to apply Acquisition through Creative Teaching principles in a concrete situation. The teaching objective of the experiment was to enable students to achieve better results and, if possible, to do so in a shorter time period than with the program currently in use. Since the average classroom often manifests an institutional barrenness and sameness which might easily suggest and reinforce routineness and low expectations, regular attention was given towards enhancing the quality of the classroom, as this factor was believed to significantly affect the attitude of the students.
