ABSTRACT

The Acquisition through Creative Teaching Approach gives first priority to language acquisition and, although language “learning” is not neglected, its role at the beginning level is modest. This hypothesis draws a distinction between language acquisition and language learning; these are the two means available to adults for developing competence in a second language. It might seem surprising that a field as traditional as that of foreign languages has become an active testing ground for applying the frontier work of both Lozanov and contemporary brain researchers. A valuable bridge between the originality of Lozanov and the American foreign language teaching profession is the provocative work of Stephen Krashen. “Language learning is ‘knowing about’ language,” referring to “‘explicit’ knowledge of rules, being aware of them and being able to talk about them.”.
