ABSTRACT

The kerogens isolated from the continental source rocks of oligocene in Nanyang Basin and Jurassic in Eerduosi Basin have been analyzed. The pyrolysis products of the kerogens are identified by pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. This study has shown that the products of the three main types of kerogens can be characterized by pyrolysis-GC-MS. The structural features of pyrolysed hydrocarbon molecules may be closely linked to original organic matter in source rock. Thus, we can obtain some useful information on the composition of the source material and the environmental conditions under which it was deposited. The differences in peak shapes between pyrolysis products from three kinds of kerogens become more obvious in the carbon number range below C19. The products of type-1 kerogen in the range below C19. are dominated by a homologous series of n-alkene/n-alkane doublets. The products of type-III kerogen are dominated by alkylbenzenes, phenols, naphthalenes and isoprenoid alkenes and alkanes.
