ABSTRACT

D. Transport network. Although we have assumed that the transport cost is the same in every direction from the CBD, more realistic, non-uniform transport networks have been considered in Muth [93, Ch. 4] and Anas and Moses [9]. More realistic land use patterns arise with the introduction of non-uniform transport networks. However, as long as transport congestion is absent, theoretically no essential change is necessary in our basic model in order to handle the case of the non-uniform transport network. That is, let us arbitrarily fix a radial straight line from the CBD, and let r measure the distance from the CBD on that line. Let L(r) be the amount of the land on the iso-transport contour passing each distance r on that line. Then, without any change, all the previous results also apply for this case.
