ABSTRACT

Los Dados Eternos is a piece for oboe, tape and real-time live processing of the oboe by means of two Yamaha SPX1000 processors. The tape was produced using advanced DSP techniques, including sound transformation, spectral split transformation, spectral interpolation and dynamic filtering. However, the actual composition was approached in such a way that the sounds were a result of the musical intent, rather than merely a demonstration of the capabilities of the tools. Therefore, strict processing techniques had to be refined by means of aural evaluation and experimentation until satisfactory results were obtained. This paper discusses the criteria and the means by which it was possible to achieve the desired results.
