ABSTRACT
A major argument of this book is that the quality of Toller’s writing is a vital factor in determining the lasting worth of his dramatic work, and that this is true even of those plays whose initial reputation owed much to the directors of their first productions (1) . It will therefore be valuable to relate Toller’s use of language in his plays to the language of his poems, choral works and prose.
