ABSTRACT

Following the invitation of the Government of Great Britain, in late May and early June People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs V. M. Molotov visited London where he conducted talks wi th the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Mr W. Churchil l, and the Foreign Secretary, Mr A. The talks were conducted in an atmosphere of cordiality and sincerity and ended on 26 May with the signature of the Treaty Between the USSR and the United Kingdom of Great Britain on Alliance in the War Against Hitlerite Germany and Her Allies in Europe and on Collaboration and Mutual Assistance after the War. The Treaty, the text of which follows, was signed by Mr V. M. Molotov on behalf of the USSR and Mr A. Eden on behalf of Great Britain. Mr I. M. Maisky, the USSR Ambassador in Great Britain, participated in the talks on the Soviet side, and Mr A. Cadogan, the Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, on the British side. The two Governments are confident that the Treaty wil l serve as a solid basis for the further strengthening of the already existing allied and friendly relations between the Soviet Union and Great Britain, as well as between them and the United States of America, which was kept fully informed of the course of the conversations and the signature of the Treaty. Both parties are also confident that the Treaty will be a new powerful weapon in the struggle against Hitlerite Germany and her accomplices in Europe
