ABSTRACT
Etudes Op. 1 introduces the Common Music application and the Lisp Listener. This chapter assumes that you have copied the contents of the CD onto your computer's hard drive. The exercises discussed below represent a "bare bones" method for working with Lisp and Common Music. Once you have performed these Etudes you should download the latest version of Common Music from https://sourceforge.neUprojects/commonmusic and learn how to work with Lisp and Common Music from inside the Emacs or XEmacs text editors. These editors "understand" Lisp syntax and will allow you to evaluate Lisp code interactively, as you edit and develop your programs. Please consult the last section in this chapter for more information on working with Emacs or XEmacs.
