ABSTRACT
When the Russians evacuated the city of Nieswiezh some few days after the German invasion they promised to return within two or three weeks. However, before the last Russian left, most of the Jews also had departed the city. Everyone who could flee, and especially the younger people, did so. However, the Soviet soldiers blocked off the escape routes and many returned to their homes.
