ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by providing, as historical background, a brief summary of key developments in the British car industry during this period (which also flags up some major dimensions of the economic context for the studies reported in Chapters 9 and 10). It then goes on to examine our main findings about changes over time, describing and discussing frequency counts for individual and composite variables on the coding form, where these show any pattern which is of interest. Finally we refer to our interview data, which we see as a check on our coding.
