ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the views of women with representative positions in agriculture. Yet, the experiences of women on Boards outlined in this chapter would suggest that all is not well within their organisations. Many suggest women need more confidence, more training, more support, all of which are valid but which intimate that women are the only focus of concern. The male domination of agricultural Boards is evident in the gender break down of Boards with 58" of women respondents on Boards where they are either the only women or one of two. There is no doubt that women have reached powerful positions in agricultural leadership and that they are making a significant contribution through their positions. However, the numbers of women at senior levels are extremely low. Agricultural women in representative positions are particularly scathing in their comments about current leadership and view it as wanting. They have no doubt of the need for diversity in agricultural leadership.
