ABSTRACT

Black leadership is disposed to embrace the reformist, intervention strategies of the liberal wing of the American ruling class without attempting to determine whether they weaken or reinforce the structural conditions that create and sustain the unequal conditions of blacks in American life. Valuable contributions were made, which dramatized the limited utility of mainstream American political science, but the new black political science did not arise. The call for a black political science did not mean black scholars studying about black folk and white scholars studying about everything else. Black political scientists, like other privileged elements of the black community, are becoming functionally integrated into the polity, while the presumed rewards of such participation continue to elude us and the conditions of people working class continue to deteriorate. National Conference of Black Political Scientists was one of the organizations that grew out of this awareness of the need to organize and the virtue of organizing.
