ABSTRACT

Since history cannot repeat itself in literal or precise ways, historical analogy is always a hazardous path to pursue in understanding the principles behind contemporary issues. The imposition of a starting point for the sake of modern reality need not be arbitrary. Under the political system which had governed the European Order, the balance of power, nations lacked the security shield which the two oceans provided for a developing America. Americans have the capacity, and in the past have displayed the energy and creativity, to change the nature of their secular policies and the thinking which directed them. Apparently, there is no power on earth capable of elevating party passions to a level for the common good, rather than the partisan. Perhaps America's image reached its peak in the years immediately after World War II, when the country was just feeling its way on the climb to superpower status.
