ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author describes, he was reemployed by Harvard University beginning with the spring term of the academic year 1945-46. He returned as associate professor of sociology, that is, in what was then a tenured position. In the early 1950s the department was offering one of the largest courses and enrolled one of the largest number of concentrators in the undergraduate part of the university, "Harvard College". Harvard had built a building to hold all of us and Psychology too, a fifteen-storey skyscraper by Cambridge standards, in the style referred to, after its Japanese architect, as "Shinto Gothic".
