Dr.Gardnerdiscussestheproblemofwhentrainingintherapyshallbegin.He arguesforitscominglate,ratherthanearly,inthetrainingprogram.WiththisI agree,ifweaddthatnumerousothercontactswithclinicalmaterialshouldhave preceded,whetherthesebeinthewayofobservation,interviewing,testing,orall three,includingavarietyofindirectcontactswithpatients.However,inarguingfor thefourthyearfortheinternshipratherthanthethird,IthinkthatDr.Gardneris describingnotquitecompletelymany,orevenmost,ofthepresentprogramsin clinicalpsychology.TheCommitteeonTraininginClinicalPsychologyrecommendedathird-yearinternshipforanumberofreasons,nottheleastofwhichwasa recognitionofthepeculiarneedinpsychologytrainingatthisstagetobringback
