ABSTRACT

The development of many children is significantly influenced by certain organizations within the social order. These specialized social organizations and institutions are more likely to influence children's development in urban areas than in rural areas. The causes of the difficulties that some children have in becoming a part of society have been explained in a number of ways. These explanations provide some theoretical approaches to understanding and are useful in providing a base for scientific investigation of the etiological factors of some of the difficulties that children have. An ecological approach to the understanding of the variability of child behavior has been used for many years. The investigators defined the children's difficulties according to three types. One type was considered to be due to some "severe personality disturbance", consisting of either extremely aggressive behavior or of behavior indicating severe anxiety.
