ABSTRACT

Theoretically, it is possible to say that normality consists of those characteristics that most people have and that abnormality consists of characteristics at the extremes away from the center where most individuals fall. The functional behavior disorders are those disorders which seem to develop from the interaction of the individual with the environment. The significance of biological factors, however, cannot be wholly discarded and thus separation of "cultural" and "biological" influences is just as difficult in defining "disorder" as it is in other aspects of human behavior. Conflict conditions are those associated with overcontrol by the parents of the child's life and behavior and parental rejection of the child. The third cause of behavior disorder involves the lack of emotional relationships. Institutions can, by the very nature of their organization and operation, bring about disorder. The fourth type of condition causing disorder is that of traumatic experiences.
