Sociallearningisasessentialforthedevelopmentofthepersonalitystructureoftheindividualasitisforthemaintenanceandtransmissionofthevaluesandgoalsofasocio-cultural system.Butthisisnotall.Therearepsychologicalfunctionsmanifestedatthislevelthattranscendw h a t hasbeenlearned.Wefindcognitive processesraisedtoahigherleveloffunctioning bymeansofculturallyconstitutedsymbolic formswhichcanbemanipulatedcreatively throughreflectivethoughtandexpression.Culturalmodesofadaptation,orcertainaspects ofthem,learnedandtransmittedastheymay be,alsocanbeobjectified,thoughtabout,analyzed,judgedandevenremodelled.
