ABSTRACT

The imperative coordination of behavior forms one of the main classes of social coordination, and legal coordination comprises one of the subclasses of the imperative category. A social group in which the power phenomenon appears is a polarized group consisting of two correlated elements: the active and the passive. The tendency for a polarized social group to restore itself to its initial situation might be called imperative equilibrium. The polarization of social groups which forms the essence of power structures is primarily based upon the natural division of individuals into two classes: those of high and low dominance -feeling, with an intermediary group in between (Maslov). From the introspective viewpoint, the basic factor in the consciousness of individuals in a power structure is a disposition to carry out suggestions coming from the dominators. Social activity displayed in order to maintain the integrity of the power structure might be called the "power defense system.
