The greatest corrections toward the Third Way have been committed upon the two largest nations. With a certain unhappy diversion, Japan moved from a conservative royal system, Asian style, to a consciously copied Western order. This was after a United States naval force opened her up in 1854. In the late twentieth century, the United States found itself facing not only China, with four times the population, but the almost as populous India. Consider India first, population slightly over a one billion in the year 2002. With a rich culture, an exquisite religious development and allied philosophical exercises, India had been trained in law and administration by British imperialism. The great Jawaharlal Nehru led India into a distinctive socialism modeled on both the Soviet and British socialism. While it had encouraged a measure of progress, it meant the usual inefficiencies.
